GitHub is seeking a skilled software engineer to contribute to the newly launched Copilot desktop application. Originally reported by Help Net Security, this role focuses on expanding the Copilot ecosystem beyond editor integrations and command-line tools, building a dedicated workspace where developers can orchestrate multiple AI coding agents simultaneously. The position involves shaping the future of AI-assisted development at one of the world’s most influential software platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement features for the Copilot app’s “My Work” view, enabling parallel management of AI agent sessions.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to integrate coding agents capable of understanding and modifying codebases across languages and frameworks.
  • Optimize desktop application performance for handling concurrent agent tasks with minimal latency.
  • Develop intuitive UI/UX flows for task assignment, progress tracking, and result review across multiple agents.
  • Ensure seamless compatibility with GitHub Copilot Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscription tiers.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews, automated testing, and documentation.
  • Stay informed on advancements in AI-assisted development and propose architectural improvements to the Copilot app.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building desktop applications with frameworks such as Electron, .NET, or similar.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, or comparable languages.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and experience integrating large language model APIs.
  • Strong understanding of Git and GitHub workflows, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset suited for a remote-first environment.
