About the Role
This position involves analyzing and reporting on cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the National Vulnerability Database (NVD). The role focuses on investigating how the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) manages vulnerability backlogs and identifying systemic issues in the database’s oversight. Candidates will work with security researchers and vendors to assess flaws in software and hardware systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze vulnerability reports submitted to the National Vulnerability Database
- Investigate NIST’s handling of cybersecurity vulnerability backlogs
- Collaborate with security researchers and software vendors on flaw assessments
- Generate reports on database management shortcomings and improvement opportunities
- Track emerging trends in vulnerability disclosures and processing delays
- Maintain current knowledge of cybersecurity standards and federal compliance requirements
Requirements
- Degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or related technical field
- 3+ years experience in vulnerability analysis or cybersecurity research
- Understanding of NIST standards and federal cybersecurity frameworks
- Familiarity with Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) system
- Strong analytical skills for assessing complex vulnerability data
