This role sits within the company’s technical delivery team and focuses on providing advanced support and continuous infrastructure improvements for a diverse portfolio of client environments. The position requires deep expertise across Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and a range of cloud security technologies, with an emphasis on automating routine tasks and managing hybrid cloud systems. The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in ensuring that clients’ IT infrastructure remains secure, efficient, and aligned with modern best practices. This full-time, Edinburgh-based opening is ideal for a mid-level infrastructure professional who enjoys blending hands-on technical work with collaborative, service-oriented problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver third-line technical support and proactive maintenance for client Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Design and implement infrastructure improvements, including migration, scaling, and optimisation of hybrid cloud setups.
  • Automate system administration and monitoring tasks using PowerShell scripting and other infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Manage and strengthen cloud security posture, applying best practices for identity, access, and data protection across Azure and 365.
  • Collaborate closely with internal service desk, network, and security teams to resolve complex incidents and fulfil project requirements.
  • Document configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides to maintain a high standard of knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed on emerging Azure and 365 features, bringing recommendations to enhance the service catalogue.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a similar infrastructure or cloud support role, ideally within an MSP or enterprise IT environment.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Azure services (compute, networking, storage, security) and Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Solid scripting skills in PowerShell for automation and configuration management.
  • Hands-on knowledge of cloud security principles, including identity management (Azure AD/Entra ID), conditional access, and threat protection.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud architectures, on-premises/cloud connectivity, and migration strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with both technical colleagues and non-technical clients.

Candidates holding Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, or Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert will stand out. Experience with complementary technologies like Terraform, Intune, or Windows Server is also highly valued. In a broader context, infrastructure and cloud engineering roles continue to expand across the UK. For professionals comparing similar positions, NetworkUstad also highlights openings like the Head of Cloud Infrastructure at Asset Resourcing – Lead Azure Migration and a Cloud Engineer (eDV Cleared) role in Cheltenham, which reflect the growing demand for Azure and cloud security expertise.

  • Opportunities for professional development and support towards Microsoft certifications.
  • Exposure to a varied client base, providing broad technical experience and career growth.
  • Hybrid working arrangements may be available, depending on client needs and internal policy.
