About the Role
The Staff Content Designer – Model Design position at Instacart focuses on shaping AI model interactions within the company’s core consumer experiences, particularly in the online grocery shopping domain. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with research teams to anticipate user needs and design AI behaviors that deliver natural, helpful, and delightful interactions in grocery shopping scenarios.
- Build alignment across product, engineering, and design teams to develop a unified conversational voice that enhances customer journeys throughout the platform.
- Drive improvements in AI systems by analyzing user testing insights and creating evaluations to pinpoint high-impact opportunities for refinement.
- Design and optimize system prompts to enable personalized, scalable AI interactions that interpret context and respond effectively to user needs in shopping experiences.
- Develop methods for collecting training data that improve model quality and capture the subtleties of grocery-related user behaviors.
- Manage the complete lifecycle of content initiatives, from concept to launch, measurement, and iteration, ensuring each step contributes to significant product advancements.
- Establish and maintain Instacart’s unique voice in AI interactions, adhering to content standards while ensuring concise, impactful communication.
Requirements
- At least 12 years of experience in content creation for consumer digital products, including a portfolio showcasing expertise in content design, narrative building, and setting design standards, with a minimum of 2 years focused on AI model interactions.
- Strong storytelling abilities with refined taste and exceptional writing skills, capable of simplifying complex ideas into engaging, user-delighting experiences across language, design, and content systems.
- Deep understanding of information architecture and the integration of visual and verbal elements to form cohesive product experiences.
- Proven skills in prompt engineering for scalable personalization, including architecting instructions that guide AI responses, adaptations, and context awareness.
- Technical proficiency in how data, training methods, and prompt adjustments affect AI performance and output quality.
- Strategic mindset to connect user research, product objectives, and business goals, while thriving in ambiguous, fast-paced settings with strong communication and leadership in mentoring others.
Compensation & Benefits
- Instacart offers highly competitive market-rate compensation, with base pay varying by location: $233,000–$246,000 USD for candidates in CA, NY, CT, NJ; $223,000–$235,000 USD for WA; $213,000–$225,000 USD for OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, HI; and $194,000–$205,000 USD for all other states.
