Your Name (Kimi no Na wa) by Makoto Shinkai is about two teenagers that somehow switched bodies and attempt to meet in person. It is a heart-wrenching and adorable romance fantasy that will leave you wanting to consume more of Makoto Shinkai’s works.

You might start out reading this manga thinking it is a sweet body swap story, but soon enough you’ll unravel a heart-wrenching reality and plot twist. Not to say it isn’t enjoyable though, but it is definitely worth the read, and beautifully illustrated.

Spy X Family

The latest anime to become a trending hit, we have Spy X Family which was adapted into a series on Netflix. The story follows a spy, an assassin and a psychic child forming a fake family in order to conceal their identities and stop a war from breaking out between two countries. Naturally, none of them knows of each other’s double lives except for the psychic child.

It is an adorable and heartwarming series that is sure to bring some laughs and lighthearted moments into your life. You would think a story like this would serve as a true cliche, but the manga will surprise you. The story and trope do not seem overdone, and it’s a great manga to unwind to.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Fair warning, Jujutsu Kaisen is not for the faint of heart. Do not get attached to any of the characters unless you want to end up a crying mess on the floor. With that said, Jujutsu Kaisen might go out as one of the best anime and manga to be released in the 21st century.

In a world filled with negative curses, demons and spirits, jujutsu sorcerers are at the forefront of the battle. In Jujutsu Kaisen, we delve into the lives of jujutsu sorcerers in high school and powerful renowned sorcerers as they combat overpowered curses and go through all sorts of challenges.

It’s hard to concisely describe this manga, but it is a mix of horror, comedy and action all in one, definitely worth the read.

Mob Psycho 100

The final season of Mob Psycho 100 has already aired on Netflix towards the end of 2022. This makes it the perfect manga to start on and finish. There are only 16 tankobon volumes of the manga, so it won’t be hard to finish.

Mob Psycho 100 tells the story of Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed Mob, as he navigates the intricacies of high school life while attempting to suppress his psychic powers. Mob himself holds an overwhelming amount of psychic powers, and he gets challenged by other psychics while trying not to hurt anyone.

All in all, Mob Psycho 100 is a great manga for teenagers trying to navigate their own life.

One Piece

As one of the longest ongoing anime and manga, One Piece would take years for you to catch up on, and it is still far from being completed. Fans of One Piece have been on this journey since they were children and are now dull-on working adults. But it has to be said, One Piece is a great piece of literature and work.

The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew on their journey to find the greatest treasure left by Gold Roger, a legendary pirate. They go through a ton of challenges and meet all sorts of characters along the way, some are befriended and some turn into enemies.

Chainsaw Man

One of the newer anime and manga that is currently ongoing, we have Chainsaw Man. In this one, we watch as its main character gets betrayed and killed, then revived as Chainsaw Man through a contract with a devil dog, Pochita. Denji is now a man with a devil’s heart that can transform part of his body into chainsaws.

Chainsaw Man is not for the weak, it has some ridiculous and blatant gore portrayal that will leave you a little queasy. For some, this can also be rather off-putting. Note that this manga and anime are not for those below the age of 18.

Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku

Delving into something more heartwarming and adorable, we have Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, also known as Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii. The two main characters are a secret fujoshi and a handsome game otaku. This manga is for those looking for a laugh and more ‘aww’ moments, as it is a romantic comedy.

As a secret fujoshi, the only person that knows of her hidden love for yaoi is the handsome game otaku who happens to be her middle school classmate. They somehow get into a relationship and are now faced with all sorts of challenges as a couple does. And we are also rewarded with more couples, these aren’t the only two!

Tomie

If you’re looking for something on the horror side of the manga world, Junji Ito is one of the first few people that you should look into. Tomie is one of his famous works that has been adapted into all forms of media – anime, film, and even live-action films.

In Tomie, we meet a female succubus-like character named Tomie Kawakami that could make any man fall in love with her. The manga proceeds to tell the story of the various characters that encounter her presence and how she drives them psychologically crazy through jealousy and acts of violence.
