What is ACL Operation – Explained
As I discussed the Access Control List (ACL) in my previous articles that it is a technique used for monitoring outgoing traffic as well as incoming traffic and allowing them to pass or deny based on the source IP address, destination IP addresses, service protocols and ports. The rules give control to packets that enter […]

Why We Need IPv6?
Why do we need IPv6? Due to the massive increase in devices accessing the Internet, each device needs a unique IP address to access the network and Internet. The number of devices has risen from stationary to mobile, generally requiring an Internet connection. Because of the vast increase, IPv4 addresses are running out of space and needs an IPv6 address to accommodate the increased demand due to larger address space, along with improved traffic routing and better security. We are currently using IPv4 on the Internet. It was developed in the early ’70s to facilitate communication and information sharing between government researchers and academics in the US. Due to a limited number of access points, the IPv4 address space is enough, and the developers didn’t imagine requirements such as security […]

In-band and out-of-band network management
There are two ways to manage a network: in-band network management and out-of-band management (OBM). In-band management interfaces and ports In-band router interfaces are the LAN (i.e. Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Ethernet ) and WAN (i.e., eHWICs) interfaces configured with IP addressing to carry user traffic. Ethernet is the most common LAN connection. DSL and serial ports are the common WAN connections. In-band manages devices locally through the network, using a telnet and SSH connection to a router. The SNMP-based tools are also used to manage devices using in-interfaces. It is a usable method of managing a network. In-band network management is not enough for a large network because, in case of a fault in the network, it is very difficult for the network administrator to reach the affected […]
